The metal shelf brackets are handmade in Yorkshire and our solid oak shelves are handmade to order. You can choose from 14 different lengths, 2 wax finish colours or the unwaxed, natural oak option for the shelves. handcrafted solid oak shelves and you have a beautiful made-to-order bracket shelving set that is as unique as you and your home. These metal shelf brackets are handmade in Yorkshire using the same traditional techniques that have been used for hundreds of years. Just like our shelves, these brackets are hand-waxed and handcrafted, meaning each piece has its own unique appearance and markings. We work with suppliers who prioritise sustainable forestry, ensuring forests are well-managed to support biodiversity, protect wildlife habitats, and promote long-term regeneration. Solid Oak These Birtley Oak Shelves are made from quality solid oak timber. The timber is air-dried and will therefore continue to dry out as it settles into its new environment. Each shelf is cut to size and finished in our workshop. This leaves in lots of natural, rustic timber characteristics and features. Mother Nature’s own stamp of approval. The oak timbers can have colour variations within the piece. These variations are more prominent on lighter wax finish choices, or the natural oak (unwaxed) option. In this timber, you can expect to find splits, cracks, knots, shakes, waney edges, bows and twists along with sticker shadows and machine marks in keeping with the rustic style. These are the qualities that set our shelving apart from the rest. And due to the nature of solid wood every shelf will be different. Truly unique. One of a kind. Rustic timber. You can expect to see some movement within the oak as it settles into its new environment. Please note that placing your item above or near a heat source can cause this movement to exaggerate the timber’s natural features further, particularly splits, cracks and twists Fine Wax Finishes To finish these oak shelves, we use your choice of one of our wax polishes. Wax not only makes the timber look good, but it is also very durable. You can easily wipe away spillages. And cleaning is very simple. Just wipe with a clean cloth and warm water then leave to dry. But never use harsh chemical cleaners. The finish is professionally applied with the highest attention to detail. And as the wax soaks into the different grains and features it enhances their look and brings them to life.
